BLANDFORD

Blandford Nature Center Native Gardens

In 2018, Native Edge collaborated with Blandford staff and volunteers to design and install native gardens near the Mary Jane Dockeray Visitor Center and the heritage village. This project highlights the beauty and utility of native plants, while employing a planting layout and design that organizes and unifies the heritage village, enhancing the sense of place, outdoor character, and programming capabilities of the Blandford Nature Center.

While the project is centered around native plants, it also includes a strong design element that organizes, connects, and defines the space around the Visitor Center grounds, particularly in the heritage village. This area has become an attractive outdoor amenity suitable for gatherings, contemplation, education, and relaxation. It serves as an ideal complement to the impressive indoor facility of the Visitor Center, offering a more 'designed' showcase of nature that contrasts with the beautiful natural woodlands of the nature center. It inspires visitors' imagination and curiosity about the potential of native plants and how we can support nature in our own landscapes.
